Hortec Assemblies

Manufacturing services

Electronics manufacturing consists of several steps that are carried out with great care and precision. For over 25 years, we have been performing together with our customers in Electronic Manufacturing Services (EMS) across various challenging industries. With extensive knowledge of products and processes and high-quality standards, we manufacture complex and reliable Printed Circuit Board Assemblies (PCBAs). As an EMS company, Hortec Electronics fully supports you in producing PCBAs. From prototypes to support your development, a zero series to qualify manufacturability, or series production. For each type, we provide our services with great knowledge, enthusiasm, and quality.

The first step in the process and the foundation for a reliable PCBA is the processing of the provided data. CAD data (including Gerber or ODB files), the Bill of Materials (BOM), additional specifications, and work descriptions are reviewed by experienced staff. Based on this, we make a market-conform and fair offer so that you know what to expect. In this step, we also inform you about the risk of obsolescence and long lead times so that a solution can be found early in the process.

Based on the provided data, the PCBA is built in the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system. The items, operations, and tools are defined and recorded. The necessary production data is also prepared so that any ambiguities can be identified and eliminated in a timely manner.

The required PCBs, components, and tools can be supplied by the customer or purchased by Hortec. We procure from high-quality and reliable suppliers with the right price and quality ratio.

The SMT components are placed mechanically using a stencil printer, pick and place machines, and a reflow oven. This process includes several checkpoints to ensure quality. An important inspection is carried out by the 3D Automatic Optical Inspection (AOI). The AOI monitors the quality of the soldering and the presence of the correct components to ensure that each PCBA meets the quality standards.

The THT components are manually placed by our production staff. The soldering of the components can be performed using wave soldering, selective soldering, or manual soldering.

In addition to SMT and THT production, Hortec Electronics can also provide extensive system and panel assembly. The integration and assembly of PCBAs into system housings or complete product assembly is part of our services.

To preserve products against (extreme) environmental conditions such as moisture and ammonia, PCBAs can be encapsulated (potting) or coated. Hortec Electronics has the facilities to professionally provide these services.

Hortec Electronics has the facilities for programming and testing PCBAs or system assemblies. Functional tests (with or without complex scripting) and JTAG/boundary-scan tests can be performed to ensure a working product. Burn-in tests of PCBAs, possibly at specific temperatures, are also possible.

Proactively thinking about and reporting the lifecycle of a product or component is an essential part of our process. Obsolescence or long lead times are highly disruptive and can even cause damage. Hortec Electronics can advise on this and make arrangements to minimize it. We can also stock and manage components, semi-finished products, or finished products. During the data control and BOM check, we often gain a good insight into the health of your BOM and will inform you of visible risks. From there, a solution can be searched for.

To ensure quality, Hortec Electronics has a qualified quality management system based on continuous improvement. With AS9100 certification, we are authorized to work for the aerospace industry. Employees are trained annually to meet IPC-A-610 and IPC-7711/7721 quality standards. Traceability in the production process is ensured through serial number and lot number registration.
